I like it! The analogies were good and made it easy to understand. At times, too many corporate-type examples were used to illustrate a point. I would recommend the book to others, it is almost prescriptive in helping create changes.
I really enjoyed the book! I think one of the most powerful statements made was about the people in the book who didn't have a lot of manpower or money to help them make a big change. One man went into a country and couldn't even speak the language. It was empowering to read that the people weren't high officials in government or CEO's. They were nurses and single people who made a huge impact with very little to work with.
I felt it was an OK book but found myself having trouble sticking with it at times. I think if it would have been more school/education oriented versus corporate/business views I could have found myself brainstorming more ideas and ways to get creative. It has good points and I felt the best part was learning about the rider and the elephant and why we act and do the things we do based off of them. I could find myself suggesting the book to those in administration positions or those who are working on their administration degree.
I thought it was a good book. It was an interesting read and had good examples to back up the principles in the book. Sometimes it was hard to put myself in those situations or find ways to apply the book because it was corporate/business related and not rooted in education. I liked the ideas of 'shaping the path' and 'motivating the elephant'. Also, I liked the idea of true but useless information. I catch myself sometimes now before I say TBU information in IEP meetings -- what good can come from sharing that information? I felt I have learned more about myself and how to interact with others when I want them to change.
Overall the book was easy to read and I liked to real world examples. The fact that a "little guy" with no finances is able to make big changes within an organization or even a society is encouraging.
I really enjoyed reading the book. Being able to take the time to "analyze" or "think" about my own thoughts, practices, teachings and relationships with others is so important and I don't do it enough. I also enjoy reading other's viewpoints and interpretations of the text. Time well spent!
I really enjoyed this book- more than I thought I would. I normally do not read these types of books on my own, they are definitely not my first choice when it comes to free reading! That is why I always participate in book studies when I have a chance. I actually have recommended this book to my principal and even copied pages from it and gave them to my principal and vice-principal. I would definitely recommend this book! I like the various examples of change from different people/organizations. It makes the book a better fit for anyone, company, or organization that is struggling with change. It was an easy read and well worth the time!
I liked this book a lot and have recommended it to others. I am going to lend it to my husband to read also. I found it very inspiring and I enjoyed the corporate examples of change and the many creative ways that people figured out how to create change with few resources. I really admire those smart people! I plan on trying to read it again over the summer to prepare for the challenges of change next year.
I thought that the book was good. I thought it had excellent ways to help me (and other people) along the road to change. I think that change can be a little less scary for me! :) I liked all of the examples that were used that showed that sometimes changing something small can have enormous results. I also liked (and sometimes disliked) that I had to really look at myself and how I handle change...it put some things into perspective for me.
I liked the book. I liked how they had examples from all types of careers, including education and how it gave specific steps and different ways to help people change. I would recommend it to others and have already had some ask to borrow the book when I am done.
I felt it was an OK book. I really had to make myself read it. It would not have been a book of choice. I would have connected better with the examples if there had been more educationally related examples instead of more business related examples. I did like the explanation of one's emotions when change occurs (rider vs elephant). I also liked the points of specific instructions, bright spots, shaping the path, and using free space. I would probably recommend this book to others that are struggling with change.
I did enjoy this book. I liked the real world examples they shared and how it was so easy to relate to things in our everyday lives. After I started reading it my husband decided to pick it up and he read it along with me. My principal has already asked if she could borrow it so I would say yes I would recommend this book to others. Everyone will face changes in their lives, changes they desire and those they don't. This book gave me a different perspective and way to look at some of these changes.
(Mary Schreck) I found the book easy to read AND most helpful in giving a clear, concise guide in looking at how to change whatever needs changing. Change is something we all have to deal with and the book really helped in giving insight to issues that need to be addressed in order for change to occur. I would not hesitate to recommend this book, especially to co-workers .
